We Bought a Zoo Movie Review

We Bought a Zoo tells the true story of Benjamin Mee, a father (played by Matt Damon) and his two children, who after a death in the family move out of the city and purchase a zoo because they are in desperate need of a fresh start. The zoo is in bad shape and needs a tremendous amount of work, especially when they need to pass a major inspection before its Grand Opening. So with the help of his family and his employees (one of which is Scarlett Johansson) they work hard and overcome obstacles to get the zoo ready in time. The journey of fixing the zoo provides much needed healing and reconciliation within their family.

I enjoyed the movie and while there is no inappropriate content you will need to shield your child’s eyes from, as a parent I should mention that the movie heavily deals with the issue of death and there is the occasional use of the “s” word. As I have said before, you know your child best, what your child can handle and what you want them exposed to.

My Interview with Cobie Smulders, “Maria Hill” in the movie Marvel’s The Avengers #TheAvengersEvent @cobiesmulders

I was excited when I found out I would be interviewing Cobie Smulders, who plays “Maria Hill” in the movie Marvel’s The Avengers. (You can see her pic below)

Not only because of her role as a strong, female character in this film, also because every Monday I tune in to watch the show “How I Met Your Mother” and she s one of its main characters, “Robin”. (Pic Below)

We had just finished our interview with Tom Hiddleson (You can read about his interview HERE), so I was pumped about our interview with her.  So Cobie walks in to the room and I was amazed at how strikingly beautiful she was (and her dress was amazing).

Here’s what Cobie had to say…

What’s it like being one of the very few women in this movie?

I think “It’s been really cool that Marvel is bringing in these strong females and especially with Maria Hill, it’s really cool to see a strong female that’s in a commanding position…”

Did you do special training for this?

I did some weapons training because “…the most important thing for me was getting comfortable around guns.  Because I’ve kind of feared them my entire life and I’ve never shot a real gun… it helped me get a lot more comfortable…”

What was your most memorable moment while filming?

Stellaluna DVD Movie Review

We received the Stellaluna DVD to review, we love watching movies in our house so the kids were looking forward to it! Let movie night begin…

It’s a story about a a fruit bat, Stellaluna, who gets separated from her mom and although she is taken in by a family of birds, she doesn’t fit in an sets out to be reunited with her mom. On this adventure, she learns about love, friendship and about being accepted and embracing the qualities that make her different from everyone else.

I love that it’s a Scholastic DVD so you know that it is kid friendly and educational. That being the case, it comes with the option of watching it with or without wording so that if you have the book, you are able to read along with it. Little did I know that we actually own the book, it was actually my daughter that recognized the photo on the cover and went to go get the book from the book shelf (I know, I know, I should have know we owned the book…no gold star for me).

My Interview with Tom Hiddleston, “Loki” in “Marvel’s The Avengers” @twhiddleston #TheAvengersEvent #TeamLoki #LokisLadies

While sitting in a suite at the Trump SOHO in NY waiting for Tom Hiddleston, the actor who plays “Loki” in the movie Marvel’s The Avengers I was a bit anxious because not only was I in a suite at a Trump hotel overlooking NY City….

but I was about to interview Tom (notice how I left off his last name since we are friends now, at least that is what I think) and I didn’t know what to expect being that I have only really known him as “Loki”, a Major Meanie in the film!

So when Tom stepped into the room I was speechless (and by now you probably know that is rare or me).

All of us mommy bloggers were seated in a half circle and I was at one end so he walked straight towards me.  He then extended his arm to shake my hand and asked my name (do you now understand why I was speechless?)..Once I remembered my name, I answered “Leanette” and he repeated it back out loud (oh my!).  Although I wish I could brag that he only did that with me, I won’t lie to you, like a gentleman, he went around the room and did that for every blogger in the room.  However, the next time I tell this story, I may leave the other bloggers out of it…LOL

Now, there is no way I will ever be able to accurately convey how charming and intellectual he is, especially when he does an excellent job of playing the bad guy!

*Please take note that I am standing right next to him and my arm is around him (respectively of course…again, sorry babe!) After our interview it was hard for me not to be #TeamLoki or one of #LokisLadies (Sorry Babe!)

Moving right along to the interview:

* On whether he prefers playing the role of a bad guy or a good guy

Marvel’s The Avengers Movie Review #TheAvengersEvent

I am no stranger to super heroes, my husband has always been a fan (he still gets excited when he gets a comic book in the mail) and my 3 year old son is also a super hero*…I mean super hero lover!
*Everyday my son lets us know which super hero he is for the day…it is no joke in our house…LOL

We have watched every Marvel movie that has been released (which I suggest you do, so you know the history behind this amazing set of super heroes that make up the Avengers, but it is not necessary) from Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America to Thor and not just once, multiple times and probably will continue to do so. After each of these credits there was a preview for the Avengers movie, each of which left my hubby more and more hyped for it’s May 4th release (This Friday).

I knew I’d be watching it because that’s what a supportive wife does (plus I actually enjoyed all of those films) but I didn’t expect to get to do so at a screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in NY (You can read more about that here). As I mentioned, I had seen the other films and enjoyed them but I wasn’t prepared for how much I would enjoy this film. Actually “Enjoy” doesn’t accurately convey how I felt about this movie…I LOVED IT!! It was Amazing, Entertaining, Extremely Funny!!! I love how EVERYONE can enjoy this movie. Whether you are male or female, young or old”er”, whether you love comic books or have never even heard of one (hey, it can happen), it is a movie that each and every one of us can enjoy…together as family. In a time when everyone seems to have different interest, it’s nice that a film can bring you together even if for only 2 hour and 20 minutes (the film’s running time).

For those of you with small children I should mention that the movie has alot of battle scenes and aliens from another galaxy that can be considered scary looking. My 5 year old daughter will probably look away for some of the scenes, while my 3 year old son may not even blink throughout the whole film (My kids were not with me at the Tribeca Film Festival and have not yet seen the film). As always, you know your child best so you know what they can and can’t handle.

For a movie with so many characters, it is amazing that each one of them is able to shine in such a way that you are able to see each one strengths and why they were chosen to be part of The Avengers. I was also impressed with the chemistry between them all and with how well they complimented each other as a team.

I mentioned earlier that my hubby is a super hero fanatic but so is my dad, so I wondered what their reaction to the movie would be when they finally had the chance to see it. They got that chance this past Tuesday and I assumed they would be more critical since they have read various versions of The Avengers…However, they both agreed (which is weird) that it is “The Greatest Movie Ever Made!” So go watch Marvel’s The Avengers this weekend (I would watch it in 3D), you won’t be sorry!!
